Allie’s 2020 Resolution: Letting Go

I’ve been reflecting on the past year, and it really has flown by so fast! Not only was 2019 a year full of self-care, but it was a year of growth. Growth not only in my career, but also within myself. I definitely learned more in 2019 than I was expecting. I learned what it meant to be unappreciated and taken for granted, yet also valued and cherished. I learned that words without action meant absolutely nothing, yet action without words meant absolutely everything. As you can see, 2019 for me was quite the emotional rollercoaster LOL.

Hindsight is 20/20… (See what I did there? Because it’s 2020…) My New Year’s Resolution for 2020 is to learn to let go. Let go of the little things that are annoying like traffic, and people not going when the light turns green. Let go of the past when it is doing nothing to help improve my future. I also need to work on letting go of things in the present much sooner than I have in the past. I have a bad habit of holding on to things several years past their prime. I hold on to clothes that I’ve had since freshman year of college. That chevron patterned dress and bubble necklace are not in style anymore. It’s time to donate it! There are several other areas in my life that I’ve held onto things, but if we dive into that we will be here awhile.

This new year will be that new, fresh start I’ve been needing. It might be scary to quit a habit that I’ve been fond of for so long, but it is necessary. 2020 will be the year to really see some growth! My hope is to be writing this time next year about how successful I was at letting go.

“The truth is, unless you let go, unless you forgive yourself, unless you forgive the situation, unless you realize that the situation is over, you cannot move forward.” – Dr. Steve Maraboli
