Breaking Points

View the latest video from the Partnership for Drug Free Kids. HOMEWORK. COLLEGE ESSAYS. SOCIAL MEDIA. SPORTS. VOLUNTEERING. PART-TIME JOBS. FRIENDS. Teens' lives are jam-packed from the time they wake up until the time they can finally sleep and just keeping up is a daily struggle for some. BREAKING POINTS, directed by Tucker Capps, is a 30-minute documentary intended for adults that explores the stress and pressures our teens face every day, as well as the unhealthy ways that many of them cope, including abusing prescription stimulants.

Teen prescription abuse is an epidemic

Every day, 2,000 teenagers use a prescription drug to get high for the first time. (National Study on Drug Use and Health, 2012) Research indicates they are accessing these drugs in the comfort of home.

  • 65% of 12-17 year olds who used a pain reliever in the past year have obtained them from a friend or family member, by either buying them, receiving them for free, or taking without asking (National Study on Drug Use and Health, 2012).
  • 12 to 17 year olds abuse prescription drugs more than they abuse ecstasy, crack/cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine combined (National Study on Drug Use and Health, 2012).
